James Rae is one of Europe's most published composers of educational wind music with over 120 titles to his name including tutors, collections of studies and transcriptions besides original compositions. His publications are included in wind examination syllabi around the world so he is well placed to make this selection of 36 pieces from the classical repertoire to the modern, including some traditional tunes and some of his own compositions. They are suitable for each of grades 1,2 and 3 and he has kept in mind the technical requirements of the major music exams for each grade. In the Preface, James Rae says "...., this collection presents an opportunity for any pupil in their early years of tuition to broaden their musical experiences and explore the wide variety of music that is within their grasp."
