This is the first modern edition of the Sonatas by Giuseppe Rabboni, the outstanding Italian virtuoso flautist and composer. Prepared for publication by Paul Edmund-Davies, one of the world's leading flautists, these solo pieces were originally intended as exercises for sonority and bel canto. The piano accompaniments have been composed especially for this edition by pianist Roger Vignoles, in the style of the period.

Rabboni was a new find for me after many years flute playing, having watched Paul Edmund Davies talk about finding the manuscripts in an antique shop some years ago. These are delightful pieces, harder than they look to play with confidence and musicality - I didn’t suggest them for my grade 6 pupils in the end. Lovely piano parts, interesting mix of one or two movement ‘sonatas’, some seem more like etude ideas, but all fit the flute beautifully.
