SUITE

Andrew William Arthur Byrne was born in 1925 in London. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Music and was awarded a Doctorate of Music. His subsequent career was in Music Education, much of it spent in lecturing at Reading University. Although it has never been published, he wrote a symphony and, besides this Suite, his published works include 3 Bagatelles for flute & piano, 4 Pieces for oboe & piano, Introduction, Blues & Finale and an English Mass. His Suite for Clarinet was published in 1962 and the author of this note wonders if it might have been inspired by Gerald Finzi's Five Bagatelles of some seventeen years earlier.
