After studying at the Royal Manchester College of Music, Gordon Lewin spent five years in the Royal Air Force, presumably as a bandsman and by 1946 was in London and a member of the BBC TV Orchestra, also playing for other ensembles. He performed on over one hundred film soundtracks, including the 'Carry On' series and 'Dr Who' and 'Hancock's Half Hour', amongst others, for television. Besides a second career in teaching clarinet, saxophone and arranging at Middlesex Polytechnic, Gordon Lewin had over seventy published compositions, arrangements, and edited works to his name including the 'Light Touch', in two volumes. In the Foreword he mentions that all five contributors were personally known to him as having 'the light touch' in their varied approaches to 'light music' which he suggests is defined as much by the ear of the listener as it is by the intention of the performer. Short biographies of the contributors are provided. Book 2 is intended for students at Grade 6 to 8 level.
