An excellent book outlining the life and teachings of Bill Adam. Adam taught everyone from Jerry Hey to Chris Botti so there's lots of useful exercises for the trumpet. I was looking at buying from the USA so was pleased to find it in a UK store.

The publisher’s website claims there are detailed instructions on how to play the exercises, and that is what swung it for me because it is not cheap. Sadly there is virtually none! It is undoubtedly true that Adam was a great trumpet teacher but his success was due to one to one teaching and he knew this himself which is why he didn’t publish his own method book. It does collect the usual exercises in one place but if like me you have Arban, Clarke, Schlosberg etc it’s pretty much a duplication. You do get the poem If by Kipling and a few motivational quotes by the likes of Theodore Roosevelt if a lack of enthusiasm for practicing is your problem but that isn’t what I’m looking for in a trumpet method. It is fair to say it is a tribute to the great man but I’m not sure he’d have thanked the author for it.
