Giuseppe Gariboldi left his native Italy as a young man and found fame as a flute soloist in Paris, later holding the post of professor of flute at the Conservatoire for many years. He composed three operettas, sets of variations on operatic themes for flute and piano, and numerous other works for flute, both accompanied and unaccompanied.

This edition of the opus 132 "Petites Études" has been edited and prefaced by Stefan Albrecht. He describes them as having charming melodies which are brought out by close attention to detail in articulation and dynamics and so may help to bring about significant improvements in technique.
