ALLA TURCA JAZZ Op.5B

In his jazz arrangement of the Rondo alla Turca, Fazil Say succeeded in transporting Mozart''s original composition into the tonal language of our time. In my own arrangement for alto saxophone and piano, my aim was to make the frequently performed arrangement by the Turkish pianist and composer accessible to the world of a genuine jazz instrument. Although Say''s work was originally intended for piano, it is perfectly tailored for the alto saxophone, utilising almost the entire tonal range of the instrument.
Alla Turca Jazz begins quite simply with the famous opening bars of Mozart''s original. Subsequently, unsuspecting listeners will be astonished and overwhelmed by the vortex of syncopation, abrasive sounds and flourishes of chromatic blue notes.
This arrangement is suitable for a wide range of occasions. Due to its difficulty and brief duration of ca. 2 minutes, it is ideal as an examination piece or a selected or set piece for a competition. It makes a fascinating encore piece
