Blues for D.D. was written for oboe virtuoso Diana Doherty at her request. It starts slow and easy, and then takes off, transmogrifying the blues through sections of catchy swing, lilting Latin, and blistering bebop before crashing to earth with a nearly three octave chromatic swoop and concluding with a sassy bit of tongue in cheek. The piece was designed to be fun to play and fun to listen to, and tho test the outer limits of the possible in oboe technique. Thus, the principal requirements for undertaking this piece are a sense of humor and considerably more technique than God. The Blues is an oboist's Everest. The pianist is perhaps the musical sherpa, accompanying the adventurer, but the oboist must climb the whole way herself, and only an elite few are capable of making it to the top.
This edition comes unbound, in loose-leaf pages. This work is also available in a slightly modified version for unaccompanied oboe.

"When I heard Jeff Agrell’s Clarinet quartet back in 1993, I was absolutely amazed. I loved it so much that I asked him to write me something. Blues for D.D. has been a hit every time I’ve played it. For me, it never stops being challenging, it never stops being fun, it always makes me laugh and feel good (once I’ve got my breath back!!). Its outrageous demands have extended my limits to a point I would not have thought possible, and for this, I will be eternally grateful. It may be a short piece but its impact has been far-reaching. I feel truly honoured that it has been written for me." – Diana Doherty, international oboe soloist and Principal Oboe of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra

This edition is presented as loose sheets. A modified version is available for unaccompanied oboe.
