Copland's popular works for ballet, radio and film as well as his precise, angular and less accessible orchestral and chamber compositions mark him out as probably the foremost composer of the twentieth century to evolve a distinct and unmistakeable American voice. This was recognized both within the world of music and beyond by the award to him of the Pulitzer Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Many of the solos in this collection have been chosen from Copland's vocal works by Quincy Hilliard who has arranged them for wind players, who should be careful to phrase their playing so as to maintain the lyricism and expressiveness of the vocal line. This book is just the solo part - an all-purpose piano accompaniment (Copland Instrument Album) is available separately.
