Here presented Cuarteto Concertante is a remarkable work in the transition from the Spanish Chamber music practice that expands from the Court of Carlos III and Carlos IV, with prestige composers like Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805), Manuel Canales (1747-1786), Gaetano Brunetti (1744-1798), José Teixidor (ca.1752-1811), Juan Pedro de Almeida (second half 18th century), and Juan Oliver y Astorga (1733-1830) , among others, to the public concert of the 19th century, with stable instrumental groups as the “Sociedad de Cuartetos” . This transition was possible by a huge conceptual transformation that placed the musical art in a transcendent place and contributed to revalue the purely instrumental genres. In this process, the international formation of Masarnau and his great personality were undoubtedly decisive. After long stays in London and Paris, and especially between 1834 and 1837, he joined  Madrid musical life promoting and participating in private concerts which unveiled the European music news of the moment and also its own repertoire. These initiatives favoured the manifestation of a first romantic musical style in Spain to which this work belongs.
