Roderick Elms is one of the UK's leading orchestral keyboard players with a reputation for versatility. He has made numerous concert appearances and broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and Radio 2 where he has often featured on 'Friday Night is Music Night'. He tours abroad widely including Europe, the States, Canada and the Far East in his itineraries. Roderick Elms has a significant catalogue of compositions, many of them for choir and organ but he does write for winds and composed 'Cygncopations' in 2003 for cor anglais and orchestra.
The title is a play on words so that syncopation is mis-spelt to include the French word for 'swan' - 'cygne' and also to refer obliquely to Sibelius's 'Swan of Tuonela' which is scored for cor anglais and orchestra. The composer was advised by Kyle Horch in preparing the solo saxophon
