I am a Music Archaeologist. For the past 20 years I have been fascinated by the amount of good music that is forgotten. Ranging from symphonies to flute music, I track it down, dig it up and make a new edition with a virtual performance on a play-along CD. My research has taken me all over Europe and I have appeared at the BBC Proms. For several years I have been writing articles about forgotten flute music for Pan, journal of the British Flute Society. Recently I was especially pleased to have uncovered the music of Sir George Alexander Macfarren.

As featured in the article in Pan the Journal of the British Flute Society [December 2014]. The composer played flute in the orchestra for the first performance of 'Parsifal' in Bayreuth and the influence of Wagner is evident in the opening bars of 'Es will Abend werden.' The piece is dedicated to the painter Hans Bertle who created the cover for the first edition of the work. We have felt it appropriate to use the illustration, made available by IMSLP for the cover of our new edition.
