FANTASIA - LA FOLIA

Like its companion piece, Fantasia Dodecaphonica sopra Amarilli mia bella (which is available on this site), Fantasia – La Folia can be regarded as a musical descendant of a Telemann fantasia. Having played Les Folies d'Espagne many times in recital, the composer felt that it represented exciting launch material for this second solo fantasia.
Fantasia - La Folia requires considerable stamina, a strong technique, and either familiarity with - or willingness to learn - the extended techniques of harmonics/bisbigliando.
Certain couplets may be cut, if a shorter duration time is required (as commonly happens with Les Folies d'Espagne). Instructions are given in the Performance Notes section.
The Alto Recorder score is in G minor - a common alternative to the traditional folia key of D minor, which is used in the Oboe/Saxophone score.
