Jab means "devil", and it is a form of masquerade played on the carnival monday morning (Jouvert). The traditions of Jouvert vary widely throughout the Caribbean although in countries like Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, a part of the tradition involves smearing paint, mud or oil on the bodies of participants known as "Jab Jabs". Jabs authentic and captivating African rhythms consists of drumming, conch shell blowing and chanting. Dance like the devil - Jump with the Jab!
Performance Notes: This duet can be played on any two Bb or Eb saxophones. Various options are possible as long as an upper and lower part are selected. The two alternative lower parts are more suitable for baritone, tubax or contrabass. The contrabass part also provides an easier Eb alto option for the lower part.
