KANDY SONATINA

In his Introduction Tony Wheeler writes about Kandy in central Sri Lanka. "This picturesque city is situated in a hilly district, and is a place of stark contrasts: many steep and narrow roads; a bustling and colourful business district; plenty of lush, tropical vegetation; and quieter, somewhat ramshackle hillside villages.

The Sonatina is in one movement but there are distinct changes of tempo which correspond to a 'fast - slow - fast' format, the two outer sections marked 'Bright swing - Presto'.
