KREISLER for Clarinet

Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) had his Viennese background and training to thank for his sensitive phrasing and dulcet tone which made him one of the best known violin virtuosi of his day, both in Europe and the USA where he eventually settled. Besides his distinguished playing career, Kreisler composed a large catalogue of work which included cadenzas to outstanding violin concertos and pieces which he passed off as the work of earlier and better known composers.

That does not apply to the 5 attractive and melodious pieces presented here - 4 are original compositions and one is an arrangement of a traditional Viennese popular song. They have been arranged for clarinet and piano by the one time principal clarinet of the New York Symphony Orchestra Gustave Langenus (1883-1957) and the composer for concert band and arranger Erik Leidzen (1894-1962).

• Schon Rosmarin (Fair Rosmarin)
• The Old Refrain (Viennese Popular Song)
• Caprice Viennois (Viennese Caprice)
• Miniature Viennese March
