After sixteen years service as a Royal Marine bandsman, as flautist and tutor, Peter Wastall took up peripatetic woodwind and brass teaching at schools in East Kent from which he developed an interest in the psychology of music and music education, for which he was awarded an MA. He was an advisor to Boosey & Hawkes for over twenty-five years and it is that firm which continues to publish Wastall's award-winning and widely used series of beginner tutors 'Learn As You Play'.
