LES EXTRAVAGANCES DISCRETES (score & parts)

The composition arose from conversations with my friends from the Insula Sax Quartet: Vincenzo Morello, Sebastiano La Bella, Fabio Carrubba, and Corrado Stefano Linares. This work is dedicated to them.
It is a fantasy in four scenes with connections, inner self-quotations, and the recurrence of harmonic and melodic elements, concealing a complex contrapuntal work. Moments of great seriousness are hidden behind a veil of lightness.
The first part begins with an animated passage, changes into a more balanced and dramatic section, and ends with a short fanfare.
In the second part, a chromatic melody is 'pepped up' by the instruments at a tight tempo until a playful conclusion. This is followed by a melancholic waltz-like sequence that concludes theatrically with a tense, somber section consisting of tremolos and chromatic steps.
The finale is held in a carefree jig tempo, briefly shifting into a quieter, more contemplative phase, which then concludes again in a lively and very playful movement.
