LES FETES DE POLYMNIE Overture (score & parts)

This opera-ballet was first performed in 1745 in Paris to celebrate a victory at the Battle of Fontenoy. Musicologists mostly agree that the Ouverture is the highlight of the work. The music starts with a slow introduction, with the balance of the work highlighted with brilliant fanfares and scales, punctuated by the Timpani.

Justin Bland has brilliantly arranged the music for an 8-part Brass Ensemble with Timpani of the following instrumentation suitable for advanced performers:
Piccolo Trumpet in B-flat, 2 Trumpets in B-flat (one trumpet doubles on E-flat), 2 Horns, 2 Trombones, Tuba and Timpani.
