Besides composing, Amy Quate's career covers computer graphics and video and interactive multimedia design, but she seems to adopt a low profile in all of these. She is a graduate in Composition from the University of North Texas where she studied with Professor Debra Richtmeyer. Prof. Richtmeyer commissioned "Light of Sothis" in 1982 and premiered it at the Seventh World Saxophone Congress in Nurnberg, Germany, and she has also recorded the work. Sothis, now called Sirius and the brightest star in the sky, was of great significance to the ancient Egyptians for its association with the goddess Isis. "Sothis, as both star and goddess, blesses us with sacred illumination."
