MADCAP MUSINGS AT HONEYSUCKLE SQUARE

No one knows where Honeysuckle Square is located, and there is no point in consulting maps and guidebooks. Rather, it is a place of the composer's imagination, where one may well encounter „crazy dreams“. The piece was composed for Vincenzo Paratore in 2019 and is a short and amusing divertissement that combines certain compositional styles with elements of humor: After a tentative „heroic“ beginning, which resembles a march full of rhythmic slips and complexities, a second part follows in which the trombone melody, which now has a somewhat displaced and melancholy character, is surrounded by piano arpeggios. The playing initially develops into a kind of „challenge“ between the two instruments, with the glissandi of the upper notes, which come along in a „overture, followed by a trombone cadenza with majestic and dramatic tones. The finale is a brilliant and playful coda.
