MARS BASS FLUTE PROJECT Volume 1

“I have always loved the sound of the bass flute… I started to incorporate the bass flute into my daily practice routine by improvising, playing baroque pieces and the contemporary pieces I could find. It didn’t take me too long to realise that there isn’t much repertoire for this instrument. So I decided to create the Mars Bass Flute Project, which would combine two of my passions; the bass flute and contemporary music… I decided to post a short video on Instagram asking if anyone wanted to compose a piece for me to play on the bass flute and that I would share my performance of it on my social media account. In that way the composer would get some exposure and the world would receive a new piece for the bass flute.
To my surprise, I had lots of lovely people send in their works and it has truly been a wonderful process to meet talented people and discover so many great pieces. It ended up being hard to choose only a few to go in this publication! I have included some of my favourite submissions from male and female composers all over the world. I’d also like to thank you, either for purchasing the booklet, playing its pieces or sharing it with friends, as it helps support new music and living composers. Thank you!” – Daniela Mars
