MONODY

Monody is an exploration of harmony through a single melodic line. It is based mainly on an arpeggiaic motif which acts as the central idea throughout the piece and which gives the clarinet the chance to showcase its warm and mellifluous sonority. This piece incorporates a melody within the harmonic bed of quavers, indicated by the tenuto markings, so that both melody and harmony are included within a single line. Though a steady pace is required, a little movement is encouraged throughout. Born in London, Benjamin Fingerhut studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since graduating in 2014, he has been working as a choral conductor, composer/arranger and music educator. Benjamin’s compositional output includes works for film, dance, concert and religious settings. Benjamin has established himself within the world of synagogue music, and has recently accepted the position of musical director at Sinai Temple, Los Angeles.
