ORCHESTRAL EXCERPTS 20th Century Symphonic Repertoire Volume 1

Orchestral excerpts - 20th-century symphonic repertoire, vol. 1

Kodaly - Danses de Galanta
Respighi - Les pins de Rome, 3ème mvt.
Rachmaninoff - Symphonie n°2 opus 27, 3ème mvt.

This collection features clarinet solos from the symphonic repertoire, presented with piano accompaniment.

I've always found it essential to be able to work on orchestral lines with accompaniment, just as one prepares a concerto with piano accompaniment.

It allows you to grasp the essence of the playing information, memorize the elements and then retain the imprint, even if the passage is later played a cappella.

While this type of compendium exists for other instruments, there is still a gap in the clarinet repertoire.

The immense work of orchestral piano reductions was carried out by Nicolas Dessenne as part of the TOSCA (Traits d'Orchestre Symphonique pour Clarinette Accompagnée) research project, conducted with my colleagues Pascal Moraguès, Nicolas Chalvin and Véronique Goudin-Léger, and with the support of research assistant Eva Kieffer.

The aim of this research was to evaluate the benefits of learning an orchestral line with piano accompaniment, as well as the relevance of integrating some of the great accompanied solos into an orchestral recruitment competition. It was supported by the HEMU - Haute Ecole de Musique, by the HES-SO - Haute Ecole Spécialisée de Suisse Occidentale and by the IRMAS Institut Romand de Recherche en Musique et Arts de la Scène, to whom I'd like to express my sincere thanks.

We have selected here some of our finest orchestral solos.

I hope that everyone will find great pleasure and interest in using this collection, whether in preparation for orchestral playing, auditions or recruitment competitions.
