SOLO FOR CONTRABASS CLARINET

This piece juxtaposes soft high melodies with brash low notes throughout. The middle section adds faster and slower notes, building into a more aggressive section made up of sharp articulations and sweeps of quintuplet and sextuplet runs. It ends with soft, high sextuplet figures punctuated by short, low sforzando hits. Apart from two altissimo notes and a couple of slap- and flutter-tongues, it requires no further special techniques. It is a compelling virtuosic work to add to a programme.
