Like his father Johann Sebastian's partita in the same key of A minor (BWV 1013), CPE Bach's A minor sonata (Wq. 132) is thought to be one of the most important works of the eighteenth century for solo flute. It...."displays great sensitivity and, occasionally, an almost romantic expressiveness" which contrasts with the traditional, polyphonic and figurative style of JS Bach's composition.
This edition by Manfred Harras is based on a copy of the "Musikalisches Mancherley" printed in 1763 and held in the Zürich Central Library. His few and slight additions are shown in brackets.
