SONATA in F major

From the foreword:
In the collections of the Bibliotheca Augusta, Wolfenbüttel, there is a collection of over 125 instrumental pieces from the first half of the 18th century for oboe (or flute) and basso, most of which do not give the composer's name*. Among them are four sonatas for two flutes by Gottfried Finger and two airs for oboe and basso by C[arlo] Fiorelli.[...] The first work in this collection is the sonata for oboe and bassoon in F major, edited here for the first time four sentences. The oboe part of the manuscript reads 'Sonata [Adagio] hautbois' and the bassoon part reads 'Basson'. [...] From the many other sonatas in this volume, all of which are written for just two instruments and lacking any indication of a continuo part, it can be assumed that this is a pure duo for oboe and bassoon. It is up to each musician to play a continuo to this probably "German and early gallant" sonata.
