Virtually Unknown Series
I am a Music Archaeologist. For the past 20 years I have been fascinated by the amount of good music that is forgotten. Ranging from symphonies to flute music, I track it down, dig it up and make a new edition with a virtual performance on a play-along CD. My research has taken me all over Europe and I have appeared at the BBC Proms. For several years I have been writing articles about forgotten flute music for Pan, journal of the British Flute Society. Recently I was especially pleased to have uncovered the music of Sir George Alexander Macfarren.

The 1st movement is lively in a style reminiscent of Haydn and contrasts beautifully with the soulful slow movement so rich in poignant harmony. The finale is a rumbustious rondo that anticipates Rossini's style. The whole work was written with a figured bass that has been realised by Roz Trubger for this edition. It is published as part of the Virtually Unknown collection.
J G Graeff was a flute player who was born in Germany but who spent most of his life in London and became a naturalised Englishman known as John George Graeff. He was a pupil of Haydn and a colleague of Clementi. This sonata was written c.1790. CONTENTS: Flute Solo. Piano Accompaniment. Play-Along CD.
