SONATA in G major Op.9 No.7

Leclair's "Fourth Book of Sonatas" for the violin was first published in France in 1738 and included two which he had written to be played on the transverse flute, as an alternative to the violin. This new edition is described as a true reproduction of the 1738 edition and includes only minor corrections and additions which are distinguished from the original by dotted lines or brackets. In his foreword to the fourth sonata book, Leclair advised "An important point, and one which cannot be stressed too much, is the avoidance of that confusion of notes commonly added to vocal and expressive pieces, and which serve only to disfigure them."
