Wilhelm Popp studied the flute with Capar Kummer and the great Louis Drouet in the 1850's and became pianist and flautist to the orchestra of the Saxon Court Theatre. In 1867 he left Coburg to take up the position of principal flute in the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Popp was a prolific composer of nearly six hundred original works and arrangements of popular melodies and operatic favourites of the time, most of them for flute and piano. His own compositions are tuneful and cover a wide range of difficulty so that they can be enjoyed by beginners on the flute to virtuosi.

The internationally acclaimed soloist, scholar and teacher Susan Milan has studied and edited an early edition of a set of six sonatines by Popp. This charming three movement work is one of them and replaces the earlier Hunt Edition, number HE35.

  • Allegro non troppo
  • Cantilene - Andante
  • Rondo - Allegro vivo
