James Rae is one of Europe's most published composers of educational wind music with over 120 titles to his name including tutors, collections of studies and transcriptions. Several of these and a number of his original compositions are included in wind examination syllabi around the world.

The sub title of this book containing ten of his arrangements - ' ... from Bach to Bacharach' concisely describes the time and genre range of the collection. Starting with three masters of the Baroque - J.S.Bach, Handel and Purcell, we jump to the nineteenth century and popular pieces by Fauré and Saint-Saens. The twentieth century is represented by two of Duke Ellington's well known numbers, Paul Desmond's 'Take Five' and Burt Bacharach & Co.'s 'Arthur's Theme, all rounded off with a jazz waltz by James Rae. Ten very playable pieces for the Grade 3 to 6 saxophonist to play for pleasure, for exams or to entertain an audience.
  • Ellington - Satin Doll
  • Handel - Siciliana and Allegro
  • Ellington - Sophisticated Lady
  • Faure - Pavane
  • Desmond - Take Five
  • J.S. Bach - Minuet in G
  • Rae - Situation Comedy
  • Purcell - Air
  • Saint-Saens - The Swan
  • Bacharach - Arthur's Theme (The Best You Can Do)
