Written by flutist Terri Sanchez, The Aspiring Flutist’s Practice Companion contains three core sections: Practicing and Performance Preparation, Practice Games, and Flute Exercises.

Practicing and Performance Preparation, or Self-Inspired Practice, covers key ideas in how to practice, how to prepare, and how to think when tackling tricky subjects in your flute life - and this ranges from articulation to getting stuck to performance anxiety.

Practice Games includes 100 short techniques in playful form to help the flutist tackle typical practice obstacles. Targeted areas include learning new music, muscle memory, refinement, tempo, focus and motivation, and musical interpretation.

Sanchez’s Flute Exercises, the final section of the Practice Companion, includes 14 warm-ups and etudes used to excellent effect by professional and student flutists around the country, now all compiled together. Composed as alternatives to Taffanel & Gaubert and Moyse exercises, the Sanchez Exercises target all the key areas of flute playing but are also specifically written to feel good to play.
