Nicholas Hare's career in music started as a chorister at St. George's Chapel, Windsor and after secondary education he studied harmony, counterpoint and the organ, first at the Royal College of Music in London and then at Oxford University. After a period of teaching, which gave him experience of working with vocal and instrumental ensembles and arranging for them, he joined Chester Music in London in 1979 as an editor and worked on the production of scores for first performances and new editions of established works. His involvement in education continued with his own instrumental arrangements which are used widely in schools, and in 1990 he went freelance as editor and arranger for a number of publishers including Boosey & Hawkes who publish the five books of his arrangements in the 'Magic' series.

'The Magic Clarinet' is a selection of twenty-four well known and less familiar tunes specially arranged for early grade clarinettists and piano by Nicholas Hare. 'The newest beginner will enjoy making music from the first five notes to the first concert!'
