MEDLEY ‘Johanna'

I am a Music Archaeologist. For the past 20 years I have been fascinated by the amount of good music that is forgotten. Ranging from symphonies to flute music, I track it down, dig it up and make a new edition with a virtual performance on a play-along CD. My research has taken me all over Europe and I have appeared at the BBC Proms. For several years I have been writing articles about forgotten flute music for Pan, journal of the British Flute Society. Recently I was especially pleased to have uncovered the music of Sir George Alexander Macfarren.

A medley of tunes from songs by Johanna Kinkel [1810 -1858] whose life history is fascinating. Born in Bonn, Germany, she received her music lessons from Beethoven’s teacher and became friends with many of the leading figures of her day including Fanny Mendelssohn and Karl Marx. She was caught up in the events of the German Revolution and escaped to London with her husband and children. There she continued her life as a parent, musicologist, music teacher and composer until she died tragically by falling from her bedroom window. CONTENTS: Flute Solo. Piano Accompaniment.
