About the Work
Erik Satie (1866-1925) was a French composer and pianist who was a colourful figure in the early 20th-century Parisian avant-garde. The Three Gymnopedies are short, atmospheric pieces which were composed in 1888. All three, and especially the first, are beloved for their long, flowing melodic lines over a lightly dissonant accompaniment.
In this skilful arrangement, Keith Terrett makes these familiar works available for bass clarinet and piano. The limited range and light technical challenges for the bass clarinet make this an extremely accessible arrangement for the young player.
