Anton Josef Rejcha/Reicha (1770''1836), the prominent Czech composer and music theorist, lived in emigration, especially in Paris, where he excelled primarily as a music teacher. As a composer, he was remarkably prolific his compositions are mostly written in the style of Viennese Classicism, but in their formal structure and the colourful timbre of their instrumentation they show certain distinctive features that were the domain of Romanticism.
Especially in his wind quintets, Rejcha achieved an excellence of international extent. He wrote a total of 24 of them, three of which are contained in this publication. They are written in the unified format of contrasting four movements: deliberately alternating a fast introductory movement with a slow second one, followed by a sprightly minuet and a fast final movement.
The publication is part of the Musica Antiqua Bohemica series. It includes a Preface and Editor''s Notes.
