"These Three Pieces were composed in 2023 in Lausanne and are dedicated to Carlo Colombo, my bassoon teacher. It's a journey that blends different emotions; each performer will be able to find interpretation ideas.
The first piece, "Introduction," can be seen as a theatrical dialogue between two characters with opposing personalities.
The second, "Expectation," further explores the poetic nature of the bassoon and its warm sound in the upper register.
The third, "The Marionette," closes my composition with a touch of humor.
I thank Ekaterina Khmelevskaya for the idea and her creative support." - Sergei Khvorostianov, September 2023
