TWO SONATAS Op.4

Leclair made a reputation for himself as a violin soloist in Paris and his 48 violin sonatas are still fundamental to the literature for that instrument. Eight of them were described as being playable on the transverse flute and the two sonatas which make up this edition have been described as "highlights of the genre".

The ABRSM syllabus 2014-2017 for Grade 8, List A specifies the 1st movt., Dolce (Andante) and 4th movt., Giga (Allegro moderato) of the Sonata in G major, Opus 4, No.7 in this edition as alternatives to the Schott edition where the same sonata in which the same 2 movements appear is described as Opus 9, No.7.
