VACANCES

Damase graduated from the National Conservatoire in Paris at the age of fifteen with first prizes in piano and composition and, in 1947, won the Prix de Rome for composition. He studied further with the great Franco-Swiss pianist, conductor and teacher Alfred Cortot and forged a successful career as a concert pianist. Between 1950 and 1974, Damase wrote and had performed six operas and three ballets and throughout his composing career also produced nearly forty symphonic and chamber works for various wind and stringed instruments including piano accompanied solos and ensembles of all types and sizes.

By its copyright date of 1990, 'Vacances' seems to be a later work. It's a lyrical little piece and more thoughtful than its title might suggest.
