László Hara was principal bassoon of the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra for over twenty years before moving to the same position with the Finnish Joensuu Symphony Orchestra. He also took up a lecturing post at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and has written a bassoon method. He is a much recorded bassoon player as soloist and in ensemble and this performing experience must have informed his many published transcriptions for bassoon of works originally written for other instruments.

Oliver Nagy composed and published choral music but also left a legacy of published arrangements of concerti and other works for wind and stringed instruments, specializing in the Baroque.

These two experienced musicians joined forces to transcribe and edit for bassoon the six works by leading composers of the Baroque era presented here. Four of the six were originally written for strings, the remaining two for higher pitched wind and we have Messrs Hara and Nagy to thank for making them available to bassoonists.
