MYSTÈRE

Geneva-born composer Marguerite Roesgen-Champion enjoyed her first musical education with her mother, singer Cecile Roesgen-Liodet. Later she studied piano with Marie Panthès at the Geneva Conservatory and composition with Ernest Bloch and Èmile Jaques-Dalcroze. After graduation (in 1913) she began her career as a harpsichordist and pianist and appeared as a soloist with leading French orchestras. In 1926 she settled in Paris and devoted herself to composition. At first your style was still late romantic. After experiencing a concert of works by Debussy, she intensively studied Impressionism.

In addition to the two recently re-released Nocturnes at Leduc and the "Berceuse pour l'Enfant Jesus" for oboe and organ published by Befoco in 2017, Mystère is now in print for the first time. The work was composed in 1933 and revised in 1952 (probably due to a planned release) by Marguerite Roesgen Champion. Considering that she dealt with theological issues throughout her life, Mystère may perhaps be counted among her more than three hundred sacred works.
