SUITE

This Suite of baroque dances by Rameau for clarinet and piano is a transcription of at least one of his harpsichord suites which are a mainstay of the French Baroque tradition. The finely ornamented paired dances (Gigues en Rondeau, Sarabandes, Minuets, Rigaudons and Gavotte) surround the programmatic and characterful 'Le Rappel des Oiseaux' (The Call of the Birds) which describes the nature of birdsong without imitating it. This arrangement is the work of the internationally acclaimed clarinettist Yona Ettlinger (1924-1981).
