By the age of 16, Martin Yates was principal trombone of the Midland Youth Orchestra and was taking on professional playing and recording engagements around the UK and in Europe. He was already composing and arranging by this time and has since written for Symphony Hall Birmingham, for bands, orchestras and for the BBC Big Band Competition. He has taught in the Midlands for many years including full-time work for Worcestershire Youth Music where he has worked to develop opportunities for students individually and in class.
These thirty-one graded studies are intended for the beginner clarinettist, especially to familiarise students with syncopation and jazz articulation at a very early stage of their learning.
