This piece composed by William Williams ( b1717) is arranged for alto recorder/flute/cello. It can be played as a duet between the wind instruments and takes the form of a conversation between the instruments. It is delightful, great fun and a joy to play.

There is a real shortage of music for this lineup - this piece is therefore not only valuable for that reason but it is also rewarding to play. Combination of bass clarinet and bassoon/horn adds so much colour.

A lovely piece but disappointed with Alphonse Leduc print quality. Piano score acceptable but solo part poor; instruction words and accidentals not fully printed in places (hard to distinguish between sharps/naturals).

The title belies the fact that no improvisation is required, as all the music is written out for both parts. There is a mix of carols and 1940's Songbook favourites, arranged, as one would expect from Pamela Wedgewood, tastefully and idiomatically for these instruments. An experienced trumpeter will play these off the bat, as the melodies sit in the meat of the instrument's range. Recommended.

A late classical trio for the fairly rare combination of ob, cl & pno. After the long piano tutti (which could be curtailed) the first mvt moves between strong unison phrases, melodies in 3rds/6ths with some added short duet "cadenzas" for the ww players to play around with, and showy passages. The slow fairly short second movement is, unusually, for solo piano, and the Finale is a theme and three variations featuring clarinet, oboe, then both together.
