HOMAGES

This selection of twelve jointly composed pieces in styles ranging from Renaissance through Folk Song, Ragtime, Blues, Latin, Swing, Jazz and more is of moderately difficult to advanced standard. Each one is prefaced with the composers' comments on the origin and style of the piece and advice on the technique required to achieve the right effect.

"Homages covers a range of styles, keys and levels from about Grade 4 ('Knights of Old') to Grades 6
or 7 (’Couldn’t Wait To Tell You The News’). Some of the numbers require some familiarity with jazz
and swing style and introduce some tonal inflection. For the Blues number 'Now You've Gone'
perhaps the best models for the young player are great Blues singers like Billie Holliday, Sarah
Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald. Although mostly written in the chalumeau register, the 'Hoedown' is
good for developing clean articulation. We hope that you will gain as much pleasure from playing
them as we have had in working together to produce them."
