Nov 15, 2023

Well, it has a list of ABRSM scales and arpeggios for grades 1-5. It does tell you what will be asked, how many octaves and such, but not much different than just having a list if you know theory (and by the they should know it). I play violin so i got this for my son’s bassoon class because i know nothing of wind instruments.

We were running short on repertoire for a Christmas concert and this fits the bill perfectly. Sounds a bit showy and should go down very well with an audience - and fun to play. About 15 minutes long

Jen-Yi Wang about  TRIO (set of parts):
Dec 2, 2023
(Verified customer)
The work is Trio for clarinet, sax. and piano by Leon Stein. We were over the moon to find June Emerson has it in stock when we couldn't find it anywhere else! The score comes with separate parts; clarinet and sax. are written in concert pitch in the piano part, which is reader-friendly for the pianist. Reading the manuscript score takes some getting used to for us. Nonetheless, it has been fun learning the work.

The only other edition of the Carlo Yvon Cor Anglais Sonata I’ve seen doesn’t have the cor part on the piano part, which is a bit of a nightmare! This new (to me) edition is excellent with both parts clearly printed. As usual, June Emerson delivered very promptly - much appreciated. Thank you!

David Jarratt-Knock about  DAILY FUNDAMENTALS FOR TRUMPET:
Apr 14, 2024
(Verified customer)
Daily Fundamentals for Trumpet is written by Michael Sachs, principal trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra since 1988, and is a great general workout for intermediate to advanced players. It has sections on various aspects of playing, such as long tones, articulation, lip slurs, scales, chromatics, interval etc., and has some useful advice on using the Clarke and Arban studies in your daily practice. I particularly like the suggestions for warm-up routines of different lengths depending on how much time you have available. There's a lot of great advice in the accompanying text, and some useful thoughts on approaching the solo repertoire of the Haydn and Hummel Concertos. All in all, a really useful book, distilling the wisdom of one of the great orchestral trumpeters.

Interesting book! In a world of so many trumpet books that are mostly rephrasing or repackaging of the essentially the same content, it's a refreshing change to read something that brings some truly new input to the subject.

This is an excellent book, but it is not a light read. Professional players who studied with Mr. Jacobs explain the methods that he used to help them. By its very nature, this can become very technical.

Mick Nagle about  SONATE Op.7:
Mar 24, 2024

Nicely printed edition of an unfamiliar work, but one which is very much worthwhile getting to know, Musically interesting and technically challenging (you also need an excellent pianist), but very rewarding. Be aware that the edition contains a number of errors - most relatively obvious - where it doesn't sound right, it probably isn't (if in doubt check against online performances). Service from June Emerson excellent.

Beautiful writing and one of Nicola LeFanu's earlier compositions. It's harmony moves from diatonic clarity into the shaded world of microtones. Each saxophone has it's own solo section and S,A,T has a small section of relatively high harmonics. It's around 15 minutes long and a brilliant piece of music.

Michelle Hale about  THREE LATIN-AMERICAN IMPRESSIONS:

I ordered the Latin American impressions as had played them with my sister 45 years ago as .music students. We’ve always enjoyed the vibrancy of these pieces. They are a joy to play. I have used June Emerson for all these years and never been disappointed. Thank you for your wonderful service over the years. You got me through my early years of music exams right through my teaching years to retirement. Many thanks for your help and support throughout those years.

I've tried all of the well-known clarinet tutor books and this is still my favourite for beginner students. By then end of Book 1, they know all of the low register notes from bottom E up to throat Bb and can play the Pink Panther. I also like that it spends plenty of time on dotted rhythms, which a lot of beginners seem to find challenging.

Richard Evans about  FLUTE SONATAS Volume 2:
Mar 14, 2024
(Verified customer)
Rachel Brown took on a daunting task when she undertook to explore the three hundred or so flute sonatas written for Frederick, King of Prussia by Johann Quantz which has so far resulted in two volumes of six sonatas each. Each volume comes within a container which consists of two copies of the flute part combined with the basso continuo (cello) part, the keyboard part (the basso continuo realized) and facsimiles of the sonatas from the San Souci manuscripts upon which the modern editions are based. There are informative notes on performance discussing tempo, cadenzas, ornamentation, trills, etc. in the back of the flute part. The keyboard part also has informative notes as well. Volume One and Two are for more scholarly flutists who want to be challenged in the correct/enlightened interpretation of Baroque sonatas. Definitely not for the average high school student. There are several modern collections of Quantz flute sonatas that will meet their needs that are not a technically demanding.

This book is Einstein's Theory Of Relativity adapted for oboe reeds. It is 500+pages long and weighs 3 lbs. Really! My first response when I got it was "If it takes 500 pages to understand oboe reeds, then I will probably never understand them". All kidding aside, you won't find a more comprehensive book on the physics and details of making of reeds and playing the oboe. Yes, I did say "Physics", for example, Chapter 16A, "The Acoustics Of The Reed". Every aspect of reed making and even playing, are examined in detail, from gouger and staple selection to the intricacies of scraping. European or American style? No problem. Lots to read on each. Want to adjust a note? A whole chapter and a chart illustrates where on the reed you should scrape. What do pro oboist's reeds look like? 16 pages of backlit photos of their reeds if part of the book. And it goes on. Comprehensive "Contents" and "Index" makes it easy to find information in this tome. "Understanding the Oboe Reed" is an excellent reference book probably unequaled by any other oboe book available. It's for those serious about playing the "ill wind that no one blows good". One or two gems you find in this encyclopedic mine of knowledge could change your oboe life.
