THREE FOLKSONGS from the County of Csik

While he was on a visit to Transylvania to collect folksongs in 1907, Bartok heard these tunes played by a "sixty year old man" on a peasant flute and jotted them down, composing the piano accompaniment in the same year. Between 1950 and 1980, The publisher Editio Musica Budapest issued over thirty of Bartok's works transcribed specifically for students by noted Hungarian composers or performers whose work, in many cases, had been sanctioned by Bartok. The Three Folksongs ... was published in 1957 and, like the others in the series, was recognized both in Hungary and abroad as an "authentic transcription that preserves the spirit of the original work".
In 2015, to mark the 70th anniversary of Bartok's death, the series including the Three Folksongs was reissued under the general title "Bartok Transcriptions for Music Students".
