I first purchased these classic trombone studies by Blazhevich One week before the Wall went up in Berlin - August 1960,- and decided to treat myself to Fink's updated version --They are of course a prerequisite library item for all aspiring trombonists - An added plus is any excuse to use June Emerson's could be the best idea any brass player could have!! if you haven't been aware before it's just the best place for all your requirements.

Fantastic way to introduce students to the essential skill of playing duets. Nice big book going from simple to moderately challenging, various keys, time signatures, and all within a relatively simple range so they can concentrate on fundamentals

Five short pleasant pieces. The clarinet has the option to play the first three on an A clarinet. The fourth movement is written for cor anglais but fits within the range of the oboe. The horn part is in F. The music I received had a printing error and page 1 of the score was missing, not likely to be repeated.
Value for money? You each get two sides of A3 to play, not a lot. It is worth playing though.

Nicholas Clatworthy about  WINSOME'S FOLLY (score & parts):
Jun 13, 2021

Three simple pieces well received in my group. The last needs to be played fast to make sense. Much of the action in the last piece is for the horn and it is fast staccato. About 3.5 mins playing time. For horn in F.

Richard Payne about  ADAGIO:
Jun 16, 2021
(Verified customer)
Part of a series of solo pieces for horn with piano accompaniment arranged by Oscar Franz, this is an arrangement of the Adagio from the Sonata for Arpeggione. Noting that it's not a transcription, but a bona fide arrangement, which has a different introduction and also adds a reprise and coda that are an addition to Schubert's original. It's an effective recital-piece for an intermediate player I would guess, but requires a good deal of breath control, as the horn part is more or less continuous throughout the 5' piece.

Many apologies - the website should have been updated to say '3rd Edition' as this has now superseded the 2nd edition.

Roger Shilcock about  SONATA Op.45:
Jul 15, 2021
(Verified customer)
It doesn't sound like it was written in the 1950s, but it is a seriously original work, without the apparently gratuitous difficulties of her much earlier clarinet concerto. I don't think it's going to get well enough known to be a standard recital piece; also, it doesn't have the lyrical qualities (the slow movement excepted) of, for instance, the Poulenc sonata

Mr John Wesley-Barker about  ESCAPADES:
Jul 18, 2021
(Verified customer)
This version of Escapades by John Williams for alto saxophone and piano works very well and goes down well in a recital. The music is derived from the score for the Steven Spielberg film Catch Me If You Can which has a catchy bitonal and atonal jazz character suiting the period of the plot. The original score featured Dan Higgins playing alto saxophone with prominent lines for vibraphone, marimba and jazz upright bass. I adapted the piano part for playing on an electronic keyboard and used those sounds to recall the full character of the piece. Quite tricky to play, possibly Grade 7 or 8 standard but it fits under the fingers well. A worthy addition to the repertoire for alto saxophone and piano and recommended.

Great arrangement, gave my last set away in Hungary so was pleased to get a new set, quickly delivered etc. There is a correction needed at bar 385, the 2nd horn should surely read Bb/A?

JEWM reply:
So glad you love the piece! Thank you for the notification about the possible correction - it will be passed on to the publishing department to have a look at and amend if necessary.

Anastasia Vasilieva about  COMPLETE SONATAS for Treble Recorder:
Jul 31, 2021
(Verified customer)
This edition has both a big beautiful book with complete sonatas and two simpler volumes with only recorder and continuo parts printed on a pleasant old-style yellowish paper.
The foreword written in both English and German delves into the history of different editions and all the sonatas have well-defined sources. I have noticed some errors in IMSLP versions which have been corrected in this edition. To distinguish between original and editor-proposed ornaments different font and dotted slurs are used, and many trills have annotations describing how to play them correctly.
