Roy Harrison about  BLUE FLUTE AND SAXOPHONE DUETS:
Jan 10, 2021
(Verified customer)
There are not many duets for flute and saxophone so it's great to find this publication. Blue Flute and Saxophone Duets includes parts for both alto and tenor saxophone, which is a real bonus. The pieces are quite approachable and good fun and can be played at an intermediate level, but are not really beneath some higher levels if a truly polished performance is the aim.

Fraser Jackson about  TWO SONATINAS:
Jan 13, 2021

This is the only edition of this piece worth getting-- others have a continuo part based on conjecture, not the real Telemann music.

Fraser Jackson about  3 PRELUDES:
Jan 13, 2021
(Verified customer)
These are wonderful pieces, loosely based on baroque preludes. They have some flashy-sounding passages that are much easier to play than they sound. Good pieces for practice or for performing. Just a note: each piece is two pages long and the way they were bound made each piece unplayable. The publisher says this was an error on the part of JEWM but it would be worth keeping an eye on.

JEWM Reply:
Thank you for your review Fraser, always hugely appreciated. I'm so sorry you received an incorrectly paginated print of this publication. The publisher apologised to us and insisted that it was his fault, but we do of course share that responsibility. Thankfully, yours was the only faulty copy to be sold - quick reporting meant that the issue was resolved straight away.

Fraser Jackson about  5 CAPRICES:
Jan 13, 2021
(Verified customer)
These Caprices are full of character and lyricism and well-written for the bassoon. (Full disclosure: one of them was written for me...) They're satisfying to play and I've seen them go over very well with audiences. Make sure JEWM gets the pagination right-- my copy was unplayable, with a page turn interrupting each two-page piece. Not smart.

Angela Williams about  A DOZEN A DAY Flute + CD:
Jan 13, 2021
(Verified customer)
An ideal first warm up book for the young beginner. This could be valuable before scales are introduced. For the learner playing scales/arpeggios, this book could be useful for improving sound quality, finger agility and articulation. The cartoons are fun and even younger flautists will enjoy the exercises.

Excellent service. Very good communications. I wasn't expecting a verified photocopy of the music. The music is out of print so I really shouldn't be surprised. The price was ok which included shipping (I live in New Zealand) and now I have the music. Very happy indeed.

Norman Piper about  TRANSPOSING HORN:
Jan 16, 2021
(Verified customer)
I ordered TRANSPOSING HORN because after a long layoff from french horn playing it sounded as if the book should be a good way of revising or even resurrecting transposition. However when I recieved it I was disappointed to find that it is merely a collection of tunes claiming to be transposable into any key. No instruction or hints as to how or why horn players transpose.

Having recently revisited Phillip Farcas "The Art of French Horn Playing" when I saw the Dale Clevenger Methods vol 1 & 2 I thought it would be useful to compare the two as both have mega reputations as players in USA. However there were few similarities. The Farcas book has a quite forensic approach to every aspect of playing. The Clevenger books are similar to the old Tune a Day approach. More advanced and thorough perhaps but mainly little tunes to learn with.

Miss Harding about  CIRCUS:
Jan 24, 2021
(Verified customer)
A set of challenging pieces for the higher intermediate to advanced player - each piece is a portrait of a circus act - the Parade, Ringmaster, Trapeze, Elephants, Clowns and Acrobats with some Bareback Riders. There's a lot of detail to be worked through in order to achieve a good performance - advanced players will enjoy these.

Mr Steven Sansbury about  THE ESSENCE OF THE BLUES + CD Alto:

I have enjoyed playing the tunes in this book as instructed by my music tutor. Some of the rhythms are challenging but the play along CD allows you to check whether or not you have interpreted it correctly.

I bought this because I also have the rambles for clarinet. These rambles are short, fun pieces.
Perfect for practicing sight-reading or transposing or for students with 1-3 years of sax studies, I think.

David Shepard about  BROOK GREEN SUITE - Digital Edition:
Feb 6, 2021
(Verified customer)
This is a charming adaption of Holst's string suite of the same name for clarinet and piano. Both parts are within easy reach of players of moderate ability, but with sufficient interest to be worthy of inclusion in a recital programme. As an interesting aside, the first movement, when played following the well-known carol, "I Saw Three Ships", could almost be a variation on that theme. I wonder if Holst had that idea subconsciously in mind?

Margoni has crafted rewarding studies that transform a wide range of compositional styles and well-known passages into something unique. Written to include unrelenting challenges, this is some of the most difficult clarinet music one can find.

Susan Flaster about  50+ GREATEST INTERMEDIATE CLASSICS:
Feb 16, 2021
(Verified customer)
Only 4 stars because I think calling the music in this book "intermediate" is not really accurate. I was expecting a step up from their previous 50 book for oboe, but this is considerably more difficult. Still, the items are interesting, and my plan is to try my best.

Really enjoying this piece but, having purchased a few items from June Emerson, this is just a general review to say that, on every occasion, I have received great customer service. With invariably covid delayed items, I have been informed at every stage and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the company to anyone wishing to purchase music.

These pieces by JS Bach are old friends. But I hadn't played them for many years, having lent the book to a pupil who failed to return it. I recommend these pieces to any high intermediate to advanced clarinettist. The music is sublime with a good technical workout thrown in.

Timothy Ward about  CANONIC VARIATIONS Op.47:
Feb 27, 2021

We've really enjoyed working on these 4 movements which create an attractive sound world. Nothing too technical for good players but a B foot-joint is required for a few bars at one point (though it shouldn't be too difficult to work around this)

We've had fun with these. An attractive sound world and nothing too difficult technically. There are lots of opportunities to express yourself and ponder alternative phrasings etc.. This comes as a playing score so you may wish to purchase 2 copies.

Hugh about  SERENATA Op.58:
Mar 4, 2021
(Verified customer)
I bought this piece a few years ago and enjoyed it so much that I bought another copy as a gift for my oboe/cor teacher. Unlike a lot of cor anglais music, this was written for the cor (rather than arranged for the cor). It's reasonably easy with a lovely tune and has a (slightly) romantic mid-19th century feel.
